.Mil Guys: Military Beret Flashes
Question: Is there a historical or other reason that almost all of the US Military flashes I have found for berets are of the same shape?
Flat top, rounded bottom...
Are there other shapes that are acceptable on a beret, such as a circle, square, rectangle, whatever?
Thanks,
K

Most American flashes are similar in shape: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Beret+Flashes+of+us+military&go=Submit&qs=n&form=QBIR&pq=beret+flashes+of+us+military&sc=0-0&sp=-1&sk=
ReplyDeleteIf you look at flashes from other countries, or the UN, you'll see that most countries seem to adapt their own shapes -- not always, but generally.
How about the vague resemblence (sp?) to a shield?

The beret flash is in the shape of a heraldic shield, which is the central shape in most coat of arms.
ReplyDeleteThe colors and shapes on the flash have some heraldic significance to the unit flash.
