Certainly. I've been following the project for three years. I would think at least half of the owners would buy. It certainly beats the clip.

DeleteIf you can do this for a reasonable price you might have something there. A lot of folks own Mosins. The only similar alternative in a bolt action that I know about is the Ruger version of Cooper's scout rifle concept that goes from between $800 to $1200 depending if it is on sale or not.

I'd be interested, but you'd have to show me the damn things work first. Before shit got stupid, what were AR P-Mags going for? If the Mosin mags work, I'd shoot for something in the pre-hysteria P-Mag price range.

I think there would be interest. Depends on price point and installation difficulty. Bear in mind that these are $120-175 rifles. People tend to buy them because they are tight on funds, are cheapskates or want a backup.
ReplyDeleteIf something came in around $50 and a normal guy can install it with basic tools in the home it would be a hit.
If the mag cost $100 and then they need to pay a gunsmith to install it that is a non starter.
I saw something about this at another site, and I am interested. As Brock stated... "It certainly beats the clip".

Oh HELL yes! I want one each for my 91/30 and my M44! I think anonymous up there is right, $50 or less, and able to install without a gunsmith... You bet I'll test them!
ReplyDeleteBeen on the mailing list with the guy who came up with these for 3 years waiting for them to be made. Everything ive seen on his test models show them to feed reliably and to be well made and easy install. I think a price of ~$40 would be appropriate. Id take at least one. Know others who would be interested too.

This is a really good idea. Id like to see a starter kit in the fifty to sixty dollar range with spare mags around twenty bucks. I know a ton of people that have these rifles myself included. Definitly takes a backup gun and turns it into a potential cheap scout/battle rifle. I have a few of these for the sole purpose of handing them out in a shtf senario and this would make them alot more appealling.

Why not 15-20 rounds? The Mauser K98 was occasionally outfitted with a 20-round "trench magazine" that didn't protrude too far.
ReplyDeleteIf we are talking about an easy-to-install, fixed magazine of 10 (or more) rounds, priced at about $50, I would buy two.
Are these 10 round fixed mags? I would be interested in the under $30 range, probably take 3 or 4. Being fixed would limit your market a bit, since you would only sell one per rifle.
ReplyDeleteArchangel had a Mosin-Nagant stock at the SHOT show that was made for detachable 5 or 10 round mags, I think the stock was in the $150 range, with mags around $30. A neat, if spendy, solution, but I would prefer a fixed mag for simplicity.

Every once in awhile they have them in the outdoor cthe rifleatalog $200, and you don't need an FFL. They're under the antinque law or what ever it's called. I don't know how hard to find the ammo 7.62x54r but making a longer mag would be nice. What other rifle uses that ammo that is detachable mag fed? Maybe modify those mags for Mosin Nagant.just my .02 cents
