Oh Sandy...

Well, electrical power repair trucks are staging here a few miles northeast of DC at my local fairgrounds.  I watched a convoy roll in from Alabama Power.  Reports from our local power company (Pepco) claim they are coming from as far as Louisiana.  I don't doubt it.  Pepco has a very bad record of leaving one of the most affluent customer-bases in America without power for a week or more.  Recently it seems as if at least once or twice a year we have serious outages locally that last far longer than they should.

I'm not terribly worried here.  Unless one of these massive Oaks that surround my house tumble and crush us, we'll be fine.  (Not totally discounting the risk from the trees, many of the branches are large enough to turn my little house into a cloud of dust).  We may lose power and internet for a while, but the Kerodin household usually fares rather well regarding power, because we are on the same feeder as two significant FedGov & StateGov facilities.  If we lose power for any significant period, it means a major piece of equipment has failed very close to home.  As for internet, I'll have net access as long as Verizon stays up, even if only from my phone.

But I must admit, this would be a very bad week to lose net access from my desktop.  There is much to be accomplished this week prior to Buy a Gun Day on the 6th.  The Citadel has several deadlines this week, and IIIGear as well.  But, it is what it is.  If we go dark here, you'll know why.

Stay safe.

  1. You and yours take care K. Hopefully it won't be as big an event as they are predicting.

  2. You should evacuate. Don't take this the wrong way or anything but looking at the current electoral college map I am kinda hoping "Sandy" just blows the entire Northeast blue coastal states into Canada or something.

All patriots should evacuate to the Midwest pronto.

  3. Last call map has it right over both our houses. Fortunately, we have a small hill or 2 between us, so do your best to slow the wind down a bit, will ya?

I can honestly say we have only lost power for a few hours over here in the last 12yrs. I'm guessing now that we're POT-ED instead of Allegheny...I'll be out of power for weeks.

We'll survive. We have firearms to build, we have Patriots counting on us, and we have buildings to complete by Summer 2013. I think we'll be fine.

    1. Now if we could only expand the hurricane to have it encompass the entire NA continent and hit the rest of the states, who in their ignorance and/or apathy will be voting for the OTHER loser... then it would be funny. I feel for the poor bastards who will really think they've 'won' something when Mittens is in office.

  5. The lack of preparation in my town is absolutely amazing. I was in the store today, and they weren't out of anything. And it isn't because they were on the ball either. People weren't stocking up on water, or dried goods, or anything. It's as if they totally expect it to not do anything, even though the forecast shows it coming straight over us.

There is a lesson here though. If they won't even prepare for a hurricane that they've been warned a week in advance for, how more unprepared will folks be when, say, the dollar collapses and they're 'suddenly' without food, or water, access to electronic funds?

But the Misses and I will be fine. We've been through this before with Ike in '08. 12 days solid without power. We were actually kind of bummed when the power came back on! ;)

  6. It's certainly going to become sporty immediately
post-Sandy, when the EBT cardholders realize
that their monthly funds(courtesy of the productive
    and electricity)
    are not accessible.
Oh, the fun-o-meter is going to spike then!
