  1. Here, I'll say it.

Any and all force would have been justified in this kid's defense. Any. All.

  2. Agreed. We have rules for a reason, and those we entrust with power MUST obey the rules. I really don't care what he did before the video - once he surrenders, new rules apply. The kid was on his belly, hands on his head.

That means you cuff him and give him to the system.

Any Citizen watching that stomping would be justified, in my book, to use any means necessary to stop LEO from stomping.

Any Citizen who did see it and did nothing...needs to check the mirror.

  3. As a former peace officer, I don't have the words to describe the rage and disgust I feel. Even though it would have been a death sentence with as many officers as were there, I really think I would have capped the ones doing the beating if I had been close enough to at least get a couple of them.

To see such obvious, absolutely inexcusable abuse of authority and felonious assault like that and try to cover it up tells me the system, in Houston at least - the cops, the Chief of Police, the City attorney or prosecutor, and the federal judge who assisted in trying to cover it up - no longer functions. There is no rule of law whatsoever.

  4. Forgive me, but this one hits too close to home. In 1986, a young black man named Sagon Penn was beaten by two San Diego cops. Fearing for his life, he managed to grab one cop's gun and wounded him, he fired at the other officer, who was hit in the abdominal aorta and died. He was acquitted, and ancillary charges were dropped because the San Diego Police Dept, was caught perjuring themselves, tampering with evidence (photographic evidence was "shopped"), and coercing witnesses.

I knew the two cops involved. One, Jacobs, was a member of the Aryan Nation. The other Thomas Riggs, was a racist as well.( I attended the academy with him, and almost got into a fight with him over his racist remarks to one of my black fellow classmates.) Witnesses confirmed they were beating Penn so severely that he had reason to fear for his life.

The man who was my sgt when I worked Northern Division, Doyle Wheeler, testified for the defense, because as a supervisor, he knew of the racist behavior and use of excessive force against blacks that both Jacobs and Riggs displayed routinely. His life was threatened by other cops on the department because of his testimony.

So this video brings back some not-so-good memories about some of the police officers I have personally worked with at San Diego. They needed killin'. As do some of these Houston cops.
